ABOUT JANE
WHY THE GLASS DUCK?
Jane Connell started her artistic journey whilst studying Art and Education at Bath University where she focused mainly on photography and etching.

In 2005 inspired by the stunning stained-glass windows of Ely Cathedral and the stained-glass museum she took several courses on stained glass with the stained-glass artist, Master Craftsman, Paul San Casciani and there here passion for glass took over.

‘My glass work is inspired by nature’s wealth of beauty from the tiniest delicate leaf, to the crashing waves of the West Wales coastline. Each piece of handcrafted glass is unique with its subtle tones and shapes revealing hidden gems as the light changes’.
A hobby in glass fusion that I loved became a business when life took a new turn for me.
For 30 years I had taught as a Primary teacher and alongside for 15 years I worked with fused glass as a serious hobby.
Then one day I took my passion for fused glass to my class on a glass fusion project for an arts week and discovered that there was no provision of glass fusing workshops for children in my area.
I started with teaching children’s workshops in glass fusion and subsequently adults requested them too. That’s how it all began!
My son determined the name The Glass Duck. My surname prior to marriage was Teall. He presented me with a small glass duck when he was 4 years old and I treasured it. He proposed The Glass Duck as an appropriate name based on my maiden name and simple for children to memorize.
The fundamental principle of The Glass Duck is wellness and the power of pause. This is emphasised by the studio being sited with a stunning view over the Hampshire countryside as inspiration. There is nothing to disturb the tranquillity except passing wildlife.
